Amber celluloid dress clip | Antique beaded pendant necklace or brooch

Although it glows like amber, this dress clip appears to be an early translucent plastic called celluloid.

I include a vintage 18K gold plated snake chain with this clip, so it can be worn as a necklace and pendant.

  • Clip is 2 1/4″ tall x 1 3/4″ across
  • A working metal snap with teeth to catch and hold heavy fabric is screwed in (not glued)
  • Three matching beads, each on its own chain, run down the center of the pendant.

Designed to be worn on shoes (when in pairs), as epaulettes on one or both shoulders, or as brooches, dress clips were a fashion standard in the early decades of the 20th century.

Celluloid plastic was created in the late 1800s, and this brooch seems to date from that period. However, tt could date to as late as the 30s.
